Teaching is never boring. There is always something new to teach and how I teach each student is different. School for me was a challenge so I want to help students understand, stay motivated to learn and have them reach their full potential. I hope I inspire my students to believe in themselves.

Academic Coach

PACE offers me the opportunity to enrich a student's academic repertoire through the integration of various teaching methods (my favorite is the Socratic method) within our customized curriculum; the ability to influence and teach students in our own ways motivated me to work for PACE--such flexibility in teaching methods allows me to play a larger part in a student's personal development, encouraging them to develop an inquisitive, probing mind. As a former ESL student who struggled with a cultural and linguistic barrier, I am familiar with the educational challenges that students face today; it indelibly inspired me to teach students, to motivate them to traverse the previously unexplored regions of their mind, as each student inherently has the ability to become someone extraordinary.I want to be remembered as a friend and mentor--someone who helped them develop a sense of self, becoming an inspiration for them in their educational endeavors as each student is to me.

Academic Coach

I love sharing what I know to others and being a role model to them. Teachers have been very influential figures in my life so I wish to pass that positive influence onto others. I want to be remembered by my students as the teacher who taught them more than just academics.

Academic Coach

As a person who loves to work with kids, PACE allows me to work with other kids in the community. My high school calculus teacher inspired me to teach; his way of teaching and dedication to his students were incredible. I want my students to remember me as a someone who motivated them to continue to learn and explore the world.

Michelle Hui
Head Mandarin Teacher

I teach at PACE because I enjoy teaching and working with kids. PACE provides me with a rich environment for that. I want to be a great teacher that plays an important role in a child’s life. I want my students to remember me as the teacher that taught them the most.

Rachel Tam
Academic Coach

I was first introduced to PACE through a friend. After a few days of working alongside the other teachers and interacting with the students, I decided that I wanted to be a part of the staff. Working with children at a personal level makes me feel happy at the little things they do, so I teach to see these moments every day. I want my students to remember me as someone who they can laugh with, find comfort in, and learn new things from.

Kalie Tang

Mandarin Instructor/i❤Math Instructor

I aim to gain more experience in how to inspire students to learn effectively. I teach because I believe every child has their own talent, and a good teacher should be able to cultivate that talent and help them develop. Hopefully , after my students grow up, they will agree a teacher is a respectable job because they once were taught by a respectable teacher.

Academic Coach

I teach to encourage kids to find enjoyment in learning. I believe that every child learns and retains information in their own way and I hope to provide support in that process. I want to be remembered by students as the person who provided unmatchable support while allowing enough freedom to expand on their own talents.

Gina Dettmer

Academic Coach/High School Study Hall Instructor

I love getting to know the students and inspiring them to be confident, empowered human beings. The more I teach the more I learn, and my goal is to be a lifelong learner. I hope my students will remember me as a compassionate teacher and a good listener, and I hope they will write letters to me when I am in the Peace Corps teaching science in Cameroon!

Jason Nato

Academic Coach/High School Study Hall Instructor

I teach at PACE because I like working with young people. Creating ties with students is one of the best feelings in the world. I want to be the teacher who gave them good memories and who taught them to believe in their abilities .

Academic Coach

Teaching at PACE is an entirely different tutoring experience than the rest, that’s why I’m so drawn to it! Just seeing students succeed and finally grasp a once difficult concept, is what inspires me to teach - not only do we teach our students, but they also teach us something new every day! I would want to be remembered as not only a helpful academic coach that helped them achieve their full potential, but also one that went above and beyond.

Compared to all the different tutoring services I have volunteered at and seen, PACE has been the only place to encourage taking an alternate approach to learning and teaching when the standard approach isn't enough. My high school math teacher, Mr. Tran, was my biggest inspiration to teach because he made attending class and learning fun, instead of feeling mandatory. I would want my students to remember how much fun it is to learn, so that when they have troubles with school, they will recall the joy alongside the different methods of teaching that we employ to aid themselves even when they are by themselves.

Stephy Jun

Mandarin Instructor

I teach at PACE because PACE is a high quality learning program, which responsibly provides students an excellent learning environment and helps them succeed academically. I teach because I love Mandarin, and I always want to share it with others. I want my students to remember me whenever they speak Mandarin.

Tony Trieu

Academic Coach

I teach at PACE because I want to help kids. I have a sense of accomplishment when I am able to successfully explain an idea to the child. I believe at PACE the kids and the tutors are able to grow together. I was inspired by a friend who is currently a tutor at PACE. She would always talk about the kids. She felt it would be a good fit for me and helped get me in contact with them. I hope in the future the students appreciate the help they have gotten. I want them to think about the methods and approaches I tried to teach instead of the specific ideas.
